Endodontic therapy, or root canal treatment, is a dental operation that treats and preserves a tooth that is extensively weakened, infected, or harmed. The procedure includes clearing portions of the infected or inflamed pulp (the soft tissue within the tooth), cleaning and disinfecting the inner chambers, and filling and sealing. The main aim of a root canal is to clear up the infection and the dull discomfort, and to keep the natural tooth in the mouth instead of extraction. It is a very effective and widespread procedure that helps to eliminate the opportunity to spread the infection and makes the teeth operational again.

Indications:

Deep Decay: Leaving a cavity untreated may cause the hole to go deeper into the tooth, making it inflamed and infected by reaching the inner pulp. This infection requires a root canal to preserve the tooth by removing the infected tissue.

Pain: It occurs when the person experiences severe pain in the tooth or when chewing or exerting pressure on it. This soreness is usually one of the first symptoms that one needs a root canal.

Formation of Abscess: Abscess is a kind of pus-filled cavity containing a bacterial infection that occurs at the end of the tooth root. This may result in swelling, tenderness and occasionally a pustular-like bump on the gums. A root canal is necessary to drain the abscess and clear the infection.

Effects:

Relief of Pain: Doing away with pain is the first and the most significant consequence of root canal as soon as the agonising pain is relieved due to the pierced pool of infection. The procedure eliminates the root of the disease, hence long-lasting relief.

Rescue the Natural Tooth: A root canal treatment successfully saves the natural tooth, and there is no tooth removal. Maintaining the natural tooth preserves the surrounding bone and prevents the nearby tooth from moving.

Prevention of Spread of Infection: A root canal prevents the spread of an infection to the gums, jawbone, and other teeth by removing the infected pulp. This is cardinal in avoiding more severe oral and even total body health conditions.
